As t says. My Audi has the Bose system in it. Will this take a double DIN, or just a single DIN? I did a search on here and found out about some things but would like to have it all in one topic for me as well as future members.

I want to achieve the following:

1) Aftermarket DVD head unit, single or double din
2) Subs, do they make a enclosure that uses the quarter panel area and not just a box in the middle of the trunk? Anyone use a free air sub in the rear deck?
3) Component speakers front and rear
4) Amps
5) A list of any/all adapters needed
6) Wiring codes

Information is good, but pictures of the installs is even better!

if you are installing an aftermarket head unit, you should have a nice RCA output that you run into your amp. you can, from this point, just remove the bose sub (not sure if you want to remove the amp as it may power the speakers...i personally don't have the bose system). a very popular install technique in A4's and A6's is creating a fiberglass enclosure that pops into the rear driver side cubby in the trunk. if you do this, you will need to get down and dirty with some fiberglass resin and cloth as nobody manufactures these. it is time consuming but not too hard. i'm planning on doing this soon and have collected a lot of links that you might want to take a look at to get a feel for the work involved.

Thanks for the links, great information. Who makes a install kit for a single din, in a 2001 A6? Pictures of kit/radio installed would be good as well, thanks.

I am replacing my 2003 Bose with a dual DIN - writing it up on another forum (.us :o)

What I did was buy a new bezel, bought a dual din radio with preamp out. Reusing the Bose amp. Bought the plug converter online (though that turns out to be relatively unnecessary...).

However, I have not yet gotten it to work (I won't go into it in your thread). I have only spent an hour or so messing with it though.
