i got a 96 a4 and there is no sound coming from the rear speakers. i had put a aftermarket head unit in and amplifier etc and for some reason they just stopped working. im not too sure what the problem is here, the speakers worked prior to the install anyone have any suggestions? thanks

Your rear speakers are amplified and need a line-level signal input. Using an aftermarket deck with speaker-level outputs to the rear speakers won't work. Metra makes a specific aftermarket adapter harness that lets you put the speaker-level signal out to the front speakers (that's what they require), but uses the preamp outputs on the back of your new head unit to drive the OEM rear amp.

Get in your trunk and look at the bottom of the driver's side rear speaker - you'll see the amp attached to it (the box-looking structure). that's the rear amp. The search feature will show you the proper steps to integrate an aftermarket deck and amp into the system the car currently has.

Another thing I learned with German cars is that if your car has a power antenna it has to be extended (on). If not, the rear speakers, that are amplified, are not getting their 12VDC supply. My rear speakers worked when the radio was on, but not when the CD player was on.
