Default The fuel gauge incorrect showings

Hey every one, i am about to buy a TT 224 from 2000, when see the car i have noticed that the fuel arrow shows some crazy stuff, when car switched off it shows 1 quarter of the tank when car is on it shows random positions, but dispite the fact my digital km show correct before the pertol runs out. Will it be expensive to fix? The previous owner said in the dealership they have quoted him 90€ (130USD). Is that correct?

Thank you in advance

You likely need a new cluster, which is waaaayyy too common on the TT. Cost is much higher than stated. More like $900 for the parts only, add dealer gouging on install prices to that, can vary. You will need to recode all keys to the new cluster.

Could also be fuel senders, which would be cheaper (maybe what he quoted for parts, but much more for labor). Some people have success running a few tanks with high levels of Techron and cleaning the senders, but this is a temporary fix at best.

The digital display has 2 lines that do not display. Would it be any help in defining cost?

Yes. You need an entire new cluster and it needs to be programmed and installed. I had mine done a while back and it was just under $1000 total. No way in hell its only $150 or anywhere near that.

a 224 from 2000? you mean a 180 from 2000?

and yes that would be a cluster issue. I have read alot of different things about clusters getting replaced though? I was under the impression they were replacing all earlier model clusters due to problems.

In the UK, they had a generous replacement policy, and many were replaced free. That policy was never in place in the US, and has come to an end in the UK as well (and they are all pretty POd about it!).
