Question Dip Stick Funnel

I did my brakes and changed the oil over the weekend on my 2001.5 1.8tQ everything was going great and blam I'm filling up the oil and the dipstick funnel breaks!

My first question is what genius decided to make this part from plastic. I know most newer cars have lots of plastic. But for something important like that in the location that it is in that is just silly. After you heat and cool plastic several times it gets brittle!

Any way I'm wondering if anyone has ever replaced one of these? If so how do you do it and how difficult is it to replace.

Thanks!

i need to do it on my car too. im assuming its pretty common because you can get them from ecstuning.com or several other parts houses. I think it just presses onto the end of the dipstick tube

its like $2-3 from ecstuning.com or $4-6 at the dealer. very common part to break, make sure you get any little pieces out of the tube.

How hard is it to install? Does the part that is still connected just snap off and then the new part snaps on?

you brake off the old one and the new one just pops on. its kinda tight, you will know when it is seated all the way. its probably easiest if you put the tube onto the dipstick first then use the handle to push down on it. it will snap into place.

Buy a new dipstick while you're at it. They turn brittle and break apart.

Remove, or at least loosen, the bracket that holds it in place. It's two pan-head screws, use a 5mm allen bit.
