HI folks,

Bought a new 2005 A4 Avant Ultrasport and it has notchy or ratcheting shifting just from 1st to 2nd and less from 2nd to 3rd "sometimes". I was fairly convinced it was temperature related as it only does it when cool or undriven and rarely on very hot days. But that may not be true. I have now had cold days where it does not do it when undriven.

Dealer explanation was worthless or less - burss that will wear away in 10,000 miles. Hah! Would not be intermittent if burrs, I would think.

So, another thread keeps pointing me toward a snub and short shifter. Seems worth a try.

Who in Northenr Ca does excellent work at fair prices and is likely to have these in stock? Close to Palo Alto or San Carlos preferred, but anywhere Bay Area for the right wrench.

Appreciate the pointers.

Thanks for that. A bit of a haul from the Peni9nsula, but if they are the only ones that turn up I may have to make the trip.
