Got mine installed last week.
Loved the OEM look.
(Just realized, I forgot to program the clock since I took out the Instrument Cluster)

RNS-D version is the OEM for B5's.
RNS-E version came with B6's.
The CD in RNS-D is only for Navigation Disks. must have a CD Changer/Phat Noise/ IPOD link to play music.
I alread had IPOD link with my Symphony. And I never (ever) used my Symphony CD anyway, so I don't mind.
RNS-E on the other hand, plays Audio, MP3, I guess. For the DVD's you have to have a 3rd part DVD changer.
RNS-E face plate don't match B5's. You need to cut from the bottom, and fill up the sides.
Plus color don't match my black dash. Guys 've used black shoe poilishes to give it black look .
But RNS-E is sweet looking too ....
I was gonna go for RNS-E first, but it had too many headaches for B5, and I don't think I would've liked it in the end.
Oh well ....
Nav-plus is really cool ...

Yes sir, it is compatible with both versions.
RNS-D & RNS-E.
i.e. it will run both without any problems, all you need to do is find the correct part number for your model/year.
Face plate, however, will fit perfectly only for RNS-D.
For RNS-E, you have to improvise (cutting, fitting & color matching).

That is beautiful. Can you put them in the older years, say a '99?

I'm pretty sure RNS-E would too. But then again, the fitting problems, if nothing else.
The Instrument Cluster Display will work for 1999.5 car, using TMC unit (CAN Gateway), since Audi started utilzing CANs from 2002+.
For 99.5 - 2001 models, you need to buy TMC Unit to make it work.
For pre-99.5 I don't think there is anything OEM available to make instrument cluster work.
You may find some 3rd party gadgets to get it to display info though.

How much $$$ for the unit?
I heard they can't play DVD MP3s. Is this true of all AudiNav units?

I purchased mine from Jon. If interested email him at jonlofquist@aol.com.
Awesome guy, I even called 'em even around 10 in the nite, while having problems installing my unit, and he still gave me pointers.
Anyway, the next mod I wanna do to it is hooking up the BACKUP camera.
If anybody knows about a decent quality camera, please let me know.
Appreciate that,
Thanks.
