I love the RS4. I have driven a couple in Europe and they have been brilliant.

Can an RS4 be imported and legalized in the US?

Thanks

Yes, of course they can. With a lot of federal paperwork and some minor compliance changes, it can be done - it has been done.

Thanks for the reply...

Do you know exactly what changes have to be done to the RS4? and who is a reputable conversion house?

My experience is has been with Ferrari. I know the ins and outs and what's legal and what's not. I also know that most cars these days are world cars and that most regs are pretty close from country to country...so I can't imagine it would be that terribly difficult.

I was on yahoo germany and did a RS4 used car search...and there were lots of them with anywhere from 30K miles on up. The low milers were priced in the low 40s USD....that is a killer deal!

Thanks for your help..

Yes you can import an rs4 although its going to be cheeper to just build one from an s4. b/c you have to pay a $5k dot inspection and then replace the parts which dont comply with us laws.

David:

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to find out which parts need to be replaced. I'm sure that there are some lighting issues as well as glass, but beyond that, I just don't know.

The bumper have to be US air basg compliant. I was going to import a mitsubishi EVO VI but i would have had to change a whole bunch of stuff. They would have let me keep the right hand drive though.

Go on the DOT's website and find some contact information (anybody, as they can transfer you to the correct person to talk to) and ask them what needs to be changed, and if it has to be changed prior to entering the US or if you can have the changes made while you own the car in the US.

talk to josh @ achtuning (www.achtuning.com) or zev@avalonmotorsports.com (www.avalonmotorsports.com) they have the contacts for this type of stuff... josh has an rs4 here in US , chsck his website. if you have the $$ do it .
plus you can find some rs4's for sale around the states every once in a while..

It just dawned on me...

Do you really think this guy is for real?

Look at his sig...
With that list... and he's turning to us for advice on importing a Euro Audi??
If he really had such a history with these cars, why would he need to turn to us for advice. He would have his past contacts/network to aid in this project.

I'm feeling very skeptical about his legitimacy.

For future reference. Achtuning imported their RS4. I recall it being a major pain in the arse. I would contact them.

I find your comments quite offensive. I have an interest in a very unique car that I have been able to enjoy on several occassions and your narowmindedness does nothing to enhance or encourage this forum experience. When one has had alot of cars sometimes something unique, that doesn't cost a bundle is attractive...but apparently you have never been in that situation.......and with your mindset probably never will.

I looked to this group as a worldwide group of Audi enthusiasts........a car with which I have no experience.......for a little help.....and this is the type of BS I get............from a moderator. I have lots of experience and contacts in Maranello and Cosworth. Just because you are a good customer of one brand doesn't open the doors to knowledge from evrywhere.

I did happen to give a fellow Ferrari club guy a call that works at the DOT...and he pretty much said importing an RS4 could be more trouble than its worth. So I took his advice. I just happened to be checking back here and I saw this worthless comment and needed to respond......

just get the same style s4, and mod the sh!t outta it, change the internals so it runs the same compression as the rs4, then mod from there. change little things, like steering wheel, dash, bumpers and other little things that give away the rs4. it would prolly be cheaper to buy a used s4 and convert it, then to import a rs4.
