Ok, I know you guys must get these questions alot, but when I'm about to drop/loan $10k+ I want to make sure I get the best.
I love Audis and am looking to get an A4 in the near future (drive an Audi 90 atm).
I'm pretty new to car modding and really don't enough about cars under the hood.
-So I'm wondering if the 1.8t or the 3.0 is the way to go? It seems like it us probably cheaper/easier to mod the 1.8t, but with the same money can more power be achieved by the 3.0?
-Also, should I go with the quattro, or not bother with the added weight of AWD?
-I would assume that a manual would be best, but I see alot of people mention that they have auto's, what is your opinions on this?
-One more, how does the A4 compare to the BMW 3-series being that both can purchased for similar prices/mileages? In terms of quality, upgradability and anything else?

Alright, sorry bout the long post, I'm sure you guys love these but I just gotta get some opinions.

Well, you have some good questions...
I know that the 1.8T is a lot more tunable than the 3.0 but I'm not sure about hp to money ratio. I know it's a lot cheaper to just chip a 1.8T and add roughly 30-50hp instantly. But if we're talkin about spending big bucks then I guess I don't know enough about the 3.0 to tell you.

Go with Quattro. Superior handling..the A4 is a heavy car either way..the AWD isn't gonna make that much of a difference, specially if you're gonna drop some serious money into it.

Go Manual...why? Because I say so damnit! No, truely this is just preference. I personally can't drive an automatic..it just isn't right and I feel like I'm falling asleep at the wheel...besides...don't you wanna DRIVE your car..not just sit in it? No offense to those that have auto's, like I said its preference..but if you really want to have fun with your car, I think a manual gives you more freedom to do so.

A4 vs. 3-series...I have no idea...get both and let us know![8D]

i think the 3 series has more power, untill you add a chip to the a4, which everyone should do

I have all kinds of fun in my tiptronic. Mainly cuz I never drive in D mode, unless I'm on the phone or eating, etc...
I am getting tip-chipped next week too finally - so my shifts will be faster than yours! [8D]

 

$10K? You will never be able to get a 3.0 for that kind of dough. 1.8T are easy to mod and are a great return on investment. As an old school muscle car guy, I went with the moto "no replacement for displacement" and bought the 2.8 which I will supercharge.

 

not that i know a whole lot about all this, since im new as well. but listen to transverse and get a manual! my mom has the tiptronic 3.0 and i have a manual 1.8t, and i can beat her in a race. (not that that;s saying much, cause its my mom, but you know.....)

Considering theres 6 different levals of 3- series bmw's one of them is going to be able to beat the audi no matter what. (M3)

 

unless you go up against the best of the Audi 4 series.... the RS4.
