I have a 2001 1.8T with Symphony Bose system. The front driver's side speaker (difficult to tell which one) intermitently crackles. This seems to be related to cooler weather. Does any one have any ideas?

Thank You!
I have an 01.5 S4 with the Bose Syn. and I am experienceing the exact same thing (same speaker). At a recent Audi meet I attended, another guy had the same problem with same system. This seems to be a manufactor issue. Here are the two important questions. !) Is this a speaker problem or an amplifier problem? and Will Audi dealers recognize this and take care of it?
Any help from the group???

Remove and swap both the front speakers (left and right). If the crackle stays on the drivers side, its the wire connection/amplifier. If the crackle moves to the passenger side, it's the speaker. My guess is it's the wire termination somewhere.

Fighting the same battle but in my S4 they both do it. I wasn't sure at first the prob was speakers or head unit. I finally located a custom installer who seemed to have the right answers - has run accross this often w/ Bose setup and blames it on poor design. The amp/speaker combo generates too much heat resulting in some sort of separation between the two (I have found that after I've turned the radio off for awhile, then back on the cracking is gone - for a time at least). An available repair for this is expensive and the problem comes back within a year. I don't want to replace the whole system with aftermarket and dealer priced replacements run about $225 ea - pricey for a fix that may well go bad again. If any of you have found a solution I'd sure like to hear about it!

Even more reason to put some sexy stereo stuff in there. "No highs, no lows...must be BOSE!" "bLose" "Beginners Overpriced Stereo Entertainment" "Buy Other Sound Equipment":D
