Default after market navigation-gps antenna 2005 A4 Cabriolet

We just took delivery of an A4 Cabriolet without factory Navigation. I am thinking of using a portable navigation unit. I am looking at the IQUE 3600, TomTom Go, Roadmate 700 or StreetPilot 2620. Does anyone have experience with any of these, others or have any suggestions? Also, does anyone know if there is a gps antenna built in the trunk of the Cabriolets that can be accessed and, if so, how? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the Audi Forums!

I have the Garmin iQue 3600. It's an excellent GPS and PDA device. You'll want to get the Auto kit that gives you a docking base (with beanbag weights to keep it in place) and a power cord with built in powered speaker that plugs into the accessory outlet. Bonus is that it will also recharge the PDA while connected.

The built-in antenna is OK for travel, but it will take a while to lock onto a strong signal. I purchased a cheap 3ft. antenna for $20 that I place on the dash. It does excellent routing. The vocal navigation instructions are also very good.

What I like about the unit is that I can use it in my car, take it to work to keep track of appointments, and use in other cars (rentals) when on vacation. Very portable and flexible.

The antenna I purchased was a Gilsson externam antenna. It simply plugs into the antenna jack on the PDA and requires no batteries (draws small power from PDA). You can find the antenna at this site: http://www.gilsson.com/page3.html

You want the Amplified GPS MCX / OSX antenna. I chose the 3 ft. model with the 90 degree connector to keep the antenna wire flush. You could go for a longer antenna and bury the wire to make it look more OEM.

If you want to find out more about the Garmin iQue 3600, you can browse through the owner's forum here: http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/foru...s=&forumid=108
