Default DECISIONSS!!!! //S4

Whats going on guys, im 17 and quite into cars. I'm looking into purchasing an Audi S4 this summer. I am turning 18 so taking out a loan to pay for this bad boy. Ever since I was little, I was always obssessed with Audi. Previous car was an 1990 Audi 200QT Quatro and Turbocharged. I got shafted with the 167hp 10v motor, considering the 227hp 20v came in 1991. Although it was 5 speed, still was a very heavy car, (tank like). Full loaded, it was nice but I sold it. I am now looking forward to purchasing an 2000 S4.

What I need to know is what to look for in S4's (certain options, etc...)

Aslo What performance parts woul be the cheapest to boost taht 250hp up alot. I have a friend with a 2005 Imola Red on Imola Red BMW M3 that I wish to keep up with. I'm looking into getting a Negaro blue S4.

Any suggestions/guidence is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot look forward to spending a lot of time here from now on.

well m3's are pretty quick if your looking to keep up with em your gona have to get to work. Your gona need Diverter Valves, Id say go with the giacc chip and then save up for exhaust and down piping cuz it sure is $$$. But good luck on your search!

B5 S4 is a great car and the 2.7 bi-turbo easily takes to power mods. Chip it, ug DVs, intake, shore up TBB/Yboot weakness are first steps...DPs & exhaust next, K04s & the works follow...none is overly cheap (though chip ug isn't so bad considering what it gets you). If you truly want to keep with an M3 - and not just in a straight line some suspension mods (springs/shocks/sways etc) are in order (makes a very big difference IMO)...and brakes if you plan to track...also cars run very hot so ug intercoolers may be advisable (particularly if you plan to track it or run it very hard in hotter weather).

A word of warning - parts, repair & UGs for these cars are not cheap - problems - even minor - are frequent and expensive...you may really want to consider if this is the car for you at this time. Its also a reletively heavy car - more of a luxury sport ride then a real sports car per se. Dependoing on what gets you off - driving wise - something like a WRX or any number of smaller sportier Jap cars - even some honda/acura/etc that you can ug & rice out a bit (far more cheaply) might be a better intro to fun driving and modding...really - think these things through and try to determine what really matters to you. German cars are great (Audi/BMW/Porsche) but are expensive - not only to buy - but to maintain. There is alot of fun to be had - much cheaper - with Japanese and possibly even American cars. You need to determine what is best for you - thrill wise - interest wise - etc...I for one - would recommend something like a miata or such - a nice nimble 2 seat convertable - or an RSX/Celica/Civis Si/Mazdaspeed 3 or some such - for a young person looking for fun times in a nice car. Just my POV.

Yes, well aware of the cost of parts for german vehicles. All my friends around me drive Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche, and few other non-exotic german cars. None of them have an Audi, so thats where I'm comming into play. Getting an american car just wouldnt feel right..seeing how I was born and raised in Europe, and currently live in USA, I'm kinda biased against American cars. Trans Am's, Camaro, Firebird's I don't care what it is, is fast in straight line and easy to get much HP out of. But put up a German Car against one of them, on a twisty track......the trans am will NEVER survive. It's easy to put a HUGE engine in a body and call it a great car, but it takes real skill to get a much smaller engine into a car that can handle INCREDIBLY while producing as much if not more horsepower than the HUGE engine vehicle. Bottom line, I'd choose German over American cars any day. Japanese are nice but look around everyone drives one. Don't see many Audi S4's My passion for cars has been with me my entire life, and I don't want to just blend in with every other vehicle on the road. I like people to look at my car and really enjoy what they see.

OK - I understand - not much for most new American cars these days (nor have I been since about 1972)...though i would contend that a new Corvette or a Viper could give one a run for the money on a track or in the twisties. I also think that there is much to be said for japanese sporty cars - small ones and sports cars like the Supra, 350zx, Rx-7/8, NSX and so on and so forth...and my - I see them comming out with some real nasty runners in the next few years....be that as it may - OK you like European cars..you have money to spend...so go for it...could do (much) worse then an S4 certainly...but for driving fun there are all sorts of options really...

Sad to say, I have never driven an S4 yet. For those who own it, how does it ride? Stock and modified.
