I am happy to have found and registered on this forum. A brief sniff of the A8 area looks very interesting and I wanted to comment on some of my experiences.
I have a 2002 A8L with 38k miles. It is silver with charcoal interior. I bought it with 33k miles in August of 2005. I bought it from a small private dealer in upstate NY who I have dealt with in the past. I purchased it at 4pm in the afternoon and 31.5 hours later, I was in Austin, TX. I drove it 1825 miles straight with a 1 hour and 0.5 rest. What a car.
I will share more in other areas of the forum.
