i think i may have f'd something up..
well i go out of town this weekend and i leave my light on and now my bat is dead. get jumper cables and connect them to my battery then i connect the other end to my dads bat the wrong way. there were no markings so i looked at mine and i put them the same way. well when i connect the other end to my dads bat, to the right of the alternator there are some weird burning sounds. so now she wont turn over but it sounds like she is about to. i think i burned something out but idk. any suggestions?
no offense, but you should stop working on your car (temporarily) and pick up a book on the basics of mechanics or something along that line.. Take your car to a shop and see what damage was done (most of the checking you could do yourself after you read a couple of chapters) but this way the damage doesnt get any worse..
PS you probably fried your starter

Manual transmission according to you signature... so get some one to push you. While your car is rolling, igniton in the on postion, push down clutch put in first gear, release clutch. Bump bump start.
If it does not start you really screwed up something in the electronics.
For future reference, most manual transmissions do not need to be jumped because you can just bump/ push start them and your alternator will take care of the rest.
Also for future reference, there is always a plus sign so find it. Also, plus wire goes straight to the starter solenoid on all cars, minus wire goes straight to a big piece of metal like the frame.
Also for future reference, when smarter people jump their car, they connect minus to the block of the engine, fender, etc. because the whole entire car is negative ground. Then if you hook the aligator clamp to the negative you do not complete a circuit and do no damage. Also, it prevents you from blowing your self up by sparking when the clamp is connected or disconnected.

i saw a subaru that was jumped like ur car was neg to pos and pos to neg and he shorted out his entire eletrical system. iicr the car was totaled because the entire wiring harness was fried.
