Default (new guy) few questions

Hello, Ladies and Gents.....

I got a few newby questions about my new to me 1998 Audi Quat. 2.8 v-6. It has 60k miles.

When should I replace the timing belt what can I expect to pay??? I was told to do it before 80k miles, is this correct?? I also am going to replace the fuel filter in the next few days, because I do not know when it was last changed.... Does anyone recomend any maint. other than what I mentioned?? Thanks in advance for the help...

Also, anyone in the Daytona area?????

If you have 60k you should do it now for the timing belt I can only tell you dealer prices and what we replace when doing this job timing belt tensioner & roller come in a kit now for $254.00 water pump preventive maintance $170.00 and its about 6.5 hrs to install for the fuel filter I will have to get back to you I just asked the guys in the shop and they had no idea i tried looking up the time to replace it and it didn't give me anything but the mechanics gave me an estimite if you have to drop the tank its 6hrs if not it would only be 2hrs the part is $24.00

depends from the dealer the service costs 800-1200 bucks. From a independant, its around 600 bucks. I would get the cabin air filter, air filter, oil and spark plugs replaced also.

Thanks for the replies......

Another thing....
I had a strange noise come from the engine compartment, passenger side down low when I started up the car in the morning... It was a low pitched buzzing sound. I thought it may be the fuel pump priming the system, but it was louder than any normal operating sounds.... Anyone have a clue what this could be???

It didn't do this when I first bought it.[sm=smiley25.gif]

As long as you are changing the timing belt and water pump, do the front engine seals.

If you haven't recently, change the antifreeze, transmission and differential oil, swap out the power steering fluid for some fresh pentosin CHFs11, bleed the brakes if they haven't been bled for more than 2 years..

Fuel filter is going to be a lot for labor as the gas tank needs to be lowered.

... Fuel filter is going to be a lot for labor as the gas tank needs to be lowered.

I was just in the local Audi dealer to get the oil temp sensor replaced... and I also asked about the fuel filter. The yak behind the counter said "there is no recommended replacement interval for the fuel filter". I said "never?"... and he said "nope, replacement not recommended".

This true?

Actually he is right there is no recommended replacement for the fuel filter only replace if there is a problem with it just like tranny fluid life time fluid don't worry unless it is leaking or there is another problem with it
