In the process of installing a valve cover gasket and everything was going smooth until i started to tighten the valve cover down... one of the bolts (front of the engine, right corner if you're facing it) SNAPPED

did i just fu*k myself over big time??

HELP what can i do???

 

you could take the rest of the bolt out and go to a hardware store and see if you could match it up. if worse came to worse you could always get a tap die set and make your own bolt.

 

how would i remove the rest of the bolt?

the part i was tightening is the nut

 

isn't the bolt screwed into the engine block?

 

you know like the turbo to the cat is held on by a bolt that is threaded on both sides w/ a nut on the cat side

 

so what kind of tool would i use to remove it?

im sorry i'm new to this

 

vise grips should do it, but is the bolt threaded on both sides? i have a feeling it is...just make sure i really couldn't tell with the pics becuase the gasket was on. but nice clear pics

 

ya if it is threaded on both sides get a vice grip and just take it out. then see if you can get another one. might have to get it from audi tho

 

Take 2 nuts and screw them on to the remaining bolt. Tighten the 2 nuts against each other. Then take a wrench to just one of the nuts. The stud will unscrew. Assuming it is screwed in, not pressed in.

 

i dont think u destroyed the engine but it might be a pain in the *** if it doesnt come out easy with some vise grips
