What is the cylinder number arrangement on 03 1.8T?
So, since I've only had my A4 for a few months and I have a P0300 w/P0302 code now.
What cylinder is which on my engine? Is it back to front 1-4, or the other way around? Is cyl 1 closest to the firewall and cyl 4 closest to he front of the car? Just need to know so I can determine what is causing my random cylinder misfire. I was just going to swap cyl 2 and cyl 3 plugs and go from there. Just to see if it jumps cylinders then. If not, then do the same with coil packs. Then if that doesn't work, I'm going to check for arcing. And then after that, I'll be lost and asking where else to go from there. I can feel the car misfiring when it's idling. Today, the car didn't want to start. I got in the car, turned the key, and it started and ran like **** so I shut it off. Then it just wouldn't turn over. After a few minutes of waiting, it started again and ran like ****, but it stayed running. I shut it off and it was fine(but misfire was still there).

Ignition Coils – These are famous parts for the 1.8T they are very prone to failure. VW has had a recall on these because they were failing rapidly on 2001+ cars. To check for bad coils the best way is with a VAG COM. Log Blocks 015, and 016. This will be a misfire counter. Drive the car or let it run, and look for misfires. If you have a bad coil you will see the counter increase on a cylinder. If you have one counting up then it’s probably a bad coil. Turn off engine and take that coil out and swap it with another coil. The cylinders read left to right 1,2,3,4 when looking at the engine from the front. Use the VAG again to see if the misfires have also swapped to another cylinder. If it moved, then you have a bad coil. Replace it. If they do not move, then you likely have a plug problem. On some cars the ignition coils have problems and they will pop up out of the cylinder head and lose contact with the plug. Plugs should be torqued to 22 ft-lbs when changed. If the coils still pop up, and they are torqued properly I have created a bracket kit to hold them down ïŠ â€“ see sig.
So, I'm assuming that when I look at the front of the engine, front being where exhaust manifold and turbo are located, the cylinder numbers are from left to right 1,2,3,4. Is this right? Back of the engine would be where the intake manifold is, right?

HAHA. I was the same way. Until my misfire came back. It went away for a minute after I changed all four coils and plugs, but it came back after a long trip. I still have my old coils and plugs, so I was just going to swap cylinder 2 and see what happens.
So, you're saying that if I stand at the front of my car, the closest cylinder to me is and the farthest from me is 4? And if I was standing on the passenger side it would be 1-4 from left to right.
That's what I though, but wanted to make sure. I'm pretty sure my honda was the same way.
