98' AUDI A4 2.8 L speedo cluster
My current center cluster display is broken and so i want to get a replacement. I want to buy a used one vs. a new one because it’s just so much cheaper. Problem is the new used center cluster has 44 thousand miles vs. mine of 84 thousand miles. I’m wondering if there is a way to reset or speed up the mileage on the to match up with my actual miles? Thanks in advance
And the problem is....?
All right, so you don't want to be caught for fraud when you sell it. There is no way to change the mileage on the odometer.
When you sell the car, you will have to tell the person that the car has 40K miles more on it than is registered. This may affect the resale value, perhaps if people don't trust you or the car.
I suppose you could take a photo with the old mileage, and a photo of the new one with 40K fewer miles to show people when you sell it.
There are licensed "speedometer" mechanics in some states. Maybe they can write out some sort of document showing the difference in mileage for a small fee.

David is right. You need to inform the buyer of the car that the odometer is correct. On my previous car I changed the cluster so it read a lot less, but on my old one the speedo no longer worked. Upon selling it in an ebay auction I CLEARLY listed the odometer was incorrect and I had no problems with the sale.
I'd just do what David said. Take a picture of the mileage, print it and date it before you put in the used one. I didn't do this, but its a nice cover your *** mechanism.
