Just bought 2005 S4, need advice on exhaust and CAI
Guys-
I just traded in my 2003 Cobra for a 2005 S4 6Spd, my question is which catback exhaust should I get? I will not do the downpipe as it is way too much money for the little hp you get, but I like it nice and loud. Do you know if the catback piping that came on the 05 is 2.5 inches all the way back? If so what are your thoughts about just buying some nice mufflers and having them welded in?
Lastly, what CAI yields the most HP for these cars, and who sells good shifters for my S4?

not really any.. The stock airbox is pretty decent. That and due to the configuration of the engine bay, any attempts for a CAI are pretty weak as it only sucks in hot air. There is a x-1 intake which has shown some nice gains because it seals it off with a carbon fiber heat shield, but they are very hard to come by. You can do a darintake which is essentially drilling out holes on the bottom of the airbox... a drop in filter is something you can do... but people have mixed reviews on it.
Welcome mate as sooks said dont bother with the CAI on the B6/B7 S4, waste of money
If u wont it a bit loud go for the Borla exhaust system and get the down pipes done ( i know its not cheap), but i will let the engine rev a lot more freely
Oh and do a chip
Not much more u can do part from super charger?

Do not do a K&N, it will screw up your MAF.
If you want an intake go with the Stratmosphere hyperflow or the Carbonio. They have carbon fiber shields to keep hot air out. I have seen a lot of dyno's with actual results from these two, so I think they are worth it.
As far as exhaust goes, I'm look at the AWE Tuning setup or the Milltek myself. Best gains and reviews from most people.
And get a chip, GIAC or APR

I am leaning towards hyperflow CAI by stratosphere and the SuperSprint Catback exhaust. Milltek just seems to expensive and to quiet. Most flow through mufflers like SS, is hard to beat because generally chambered mufflers don't outflow straight through design mufflers. I am still contemplating AWE, is there catback system loud?
Heres a clip0 of my S4 with the milltek

If you want the loadest exhaust out there milltek isnt what u want, but it is noticeably louder than stock.

Jas whats with all u diff sigs & avatars at th min mate?[sm=feedback.gif]
The Hp u get from a drop in oil filta, its not worth the money or head ache latter having to replac the MAF, if u just after a louder exhaust then just go for a Nuespeed, prob the cheapest rather than getting a custom one made up

i saw something on mixing and matching chips and exhausts and i think the apr chip with the miltek exhaust came out in the lead for hp gains. if you want throatty and loud, there is a clip on a b6 s4 somewhere on here from labree exhaust, personally thought it was louder than the miltek, but not any more power. also, bang for your buck, the chips out now either help throttle response and unrestrict top end like the mtm, but show no gains for hp, or do along the same lines and increase with average of 8-10 hp and that's the high side so far. for a few bucks more, i'd find a set of headers and exhaust and get that over with then, in the future look into the chip and maybe a cone intake or drilling or carbon fiber shields or whatever.
