View Full Version : Help please - Windshield washer system stopped working 2002 A4 1.8T
johnnyb123 11-07-2006, 10:47 PM Hi,
My 2002 A4 1.8T windshield washer seems to have stopped working. Couple of days ago, I tried using it to clean some bugs of the windshield. The wipers moved up and down but nothing came out of the washer jets. I thought maybe I ran out of washer fluid. So I filled up the reservoir with washer fluid. Still no luck.
Appreciate your advice here.
Zrowcool 11-07-2006, 11:25 PM clogged? maybe even frozen? check under the hood and disconnect the hose/tubing that goes to the washers. Hit the washer stalk and see if any fluid comes out. whether ir leaks or streams. Possibly see if you turn ignition on and then have someone hit the washer stalk while you try to hear the pump for the fluid turn on. Id also check for a fuse.
johnnyb123 11-08-2006, 12:27 AM thanks for the reply....will do as you suggested and see what happens
david9999 11-08-2006, 09:41 AM The pumps on these things go bad often
johnnyb123 11-08-2006, 04:52 PM any idea how expensive they are to replace since the car is out of warranty now...
Jacek 02-14-2007, 10:58 AM I just ran into the same problem and have no pump noise. I looked for a fuse but I am not finding one unless its hidden some damn place :-)
cclazer 12-14-2007, 08:24 PM Ya, I'm running into the exact same issue. For awhile they were just loosing pressure, and then stopped all together....thought the tank was empty, but it's full. I'll check my pump tomorrow--any ideas on cost if it comes to replacing that???
jinsojoo 12-18-2007, 02:47 PM Same issues here. I took a look at the fuse panel to the left of the dash and I could not find the position for the fuse. Does anyone know which position number it is? I would like to check the fuse first...
assegai 12-18-2007, 02:54 PM Same problem here as well!! No fix yet...I guess I'll see what the dealer has to say.
any resolution here? having similar issues with 2002 a4 1.8t. anyone know what fuse i need to change for the washer pump?
audiprotein 02-04-2008, 12:02 PM Guys, check your fuses first!!!
brrman 02-04-2008, 12:40 PM #37 fuse should cover the washer pump.
ctahir 02-04-2008, 02:43 PM Winshield pump is around $20. You can get it from any car parts store. I just replaced 1999 A6 it was $17. and you have to take bottom cover off. then look for it. It is easy to change.
Before you replace please check fuses.
2002A4SILVER 04-08-2008, 08:59 PM Same issue here with an 02 1.8T.
Replaced fuse #37 with a 20amp and the washer fluid-pumps worked.
Turned on the headlights to see if the headlight washers would also work and the fuse blew again.
Any thoughts? try a 15amp fuse? is there a different fuse for the headlight washers? did I miss a recall?
A4Boost 04-08-2008, 10:23 PM Hey Everyone,
I had the same issue with my 2003 A4 1.8TQ 2 weeks ago. To validate info, the correct fuse position is #37 and is located in the fuse panel to the left of the steering wheel. My car had a 25 Amp fuse in it. I replaced it with a 25 Amp fuse and everything works fine now. Some will advise you to go to a 30 Amp fuse to avoid blowing it in the future, but I believe Audi used a 25 Amp fuse for a reason so Istuck with it. Besides, if it blows again, the 5 pack of fuses that I bought was $3.50 from Autozoneso it is not that big of a deal. Good Luck!
BOPOH 04-09-2008, 02:00 AM lucky you, i had to replace mine, it cost me like $40
jaketone 05-26-2008, 01:54 AM While my windshield wipers and fluid still work, the headlight washers do not. I have checked the fuse and it is not blown. My manual indicates that whenever I have the car running with my lights on and spray my windows, the headlight washers should pop up and spray the lights also. These do not. Any ideas?
02audia41.8 05-27-2008, 12:20 PM same thing happened to my 02 a4 1.8t and it was just my pump went bad cause none of my fuses were blown
home4sale2 02-09-2009, 02:52 PM Position number 37 is the intelligence module and in my case (2002 A4 1.8T) it is 20 amps and not 25 amps. After I replaced it, the fuse blew after a few days again and then again. After further digging on this forum I found a note that suggested replacing the 20A fuse with a 30A fuse (apparently recommended by Audi) and I am always afraid to do that due to obvious reasons. Just want to confirm if everyone agrees or if someone has done this without causing any problems.
In the event it's the motor causing a short, does someone have pictures to share or instructions on how to replace it and the p/n?
Thanks.
wolfdog 02-09-2009, 10:55 PM The driver's side fuse box (left of steerign wheel, covered when door is closed), fuse #37. Replace it with a 30 amp fuse as detailed in an audi service bulletin a few years back. Do ti even if it appears to not be blown upon inspection.
CREDIT goes to Old Guy.
home4sale2 02-10-2009, 03:29 PM To add, double checked with the dealer and they confirmed that I can replace #37 with a 25 or a 30A fuse. I must have missed the memo. Done!
borninrussia3 02-10-2009, 10:41 PM yeah i had the same issue last week, looked at the fuses and one of them was blown , so replaced it and two hours later it fried again, so i replaced the pump ( 35 $ bosch pump) and the fuse now works like a charm.
headshok2002 02-11-2009, 12:27 AM These things freeze up... Literally get caked with ice, then the pump stops working. This causes the fuse to blow. If you change the fuse and try it again, it'll blow.
There's a separate pump for headlights and windshield. The fuse usually blows when you have your lights on, and they can blow independently.
Right now, my headlight ones aren't working, but I've still got the windshield. Too lazy to put in the new pump... waiting for warm weather. :P
jhsteel82 02-15-2009, 08:46 PM Just had the same issue w/ my washer system. Was using it when all of a sudden it just cut out. Thought maybe it was the pump that went bad but then checked the fuses on the left side of the dash where i found a blwon fuse. It's the bottom row on the right side of the panel. 25 amp
sparky331 02-15-2009, 11:10 PM Same issue here, no blown fuses, no noises from pump. Did verify no voltage at pump when stalk is pulled. Any thoughts? Wiring gremlins perhaps?
bburdumy 03-08-2009, 07:32 PM Same issue in an 2002 A4 3.0. Checked the fuse(s), resevoir, pumps (i tested them and they work) as do the wipers but when I plug everything in and depress the stalk no pump noise and no fluid spray. Seems to not be getting electrical. Is there a relay under the dash or hood?
shoothepress 03-08-2009, 10:21 PM Same problem here. Stopped working about a week after I took it home from the dealer.
Figures...
JoeVerg 06-02-2009, 05:44 PM There is a relay under the dash. I've seen in older vehicles the wiper relay is in position #6, but have/want to confirm this for the B6's. Same thing happened to mine recently, wipers got slow, then stopped all together. I can hear the motor and still have washer fluid when I pull the stalk, so it's not the motor or transmission assembly. Does anyone have the realy panel info under the dash? I have in position 6 relay #370 part number 8D0 951 253. If someone can reply that this is the correct relay, I'd appreciate it.
