Default coolant

alright, finally got the drain plug to open..but i was looking at my coolant and it seems to be really low too...do i need to go to the audi dealership and get their coolant or is coolant just coolant?

No coolant is NOT just coolant. You can not mix your coolants. You have to top off with Audi/VW pentosin G12. It's the red stuff if the dealer asks.

I can't under good concious recommend anything other than pentosin G12. While the others may work fine, there is no telling what will happen in the long term usage. Even mixing G12 with green/yellow coolants will cause gelling and turn to a slimey mess. You only need to change the stuff like once every 60k miles, so spend the extra money for the good stuff. You can get it for cheaper than the dealer at ecstuning.com and other places.

you can flush and use the new prestone but dont mix them...

It is not normal for these cars to "use" significant amounts of coolant. Have the cooling system pressure tested, unless you can find an obvious leak somewhere.

Yeah the resevoir and the cap are known culprits for leaks.

The place where you put the fluid in! Big tank with red coolant.
