My first oil change is due on recently purchased 01 a4. It has been serviced at dealership by previous owner and has about 50K miles on the car.

What oil do you guys recommend I should use from here on out? Also you guys change oil yourself or take it somewhere to get it done?

Whatever you do, DO NOT get your oil changed at wal-mart or any 10 minute oil change place. Too many horror stories. I change my own oil with mobile 1.

 

I take my 00 1.8 back to the dealer every 3000...its not the cheapest but i know it gets done right...

 

Come on dude, take it to the dealer for a oil change???

 

jeez..sorry i havnt mastered the art of the oil change yet...thats next on my list of **** to do

1. remove belly pan.
2. unscrew oil pan plug (and hopefully have a bucket to contain oil that subsequently comes out)
3. Remove filter from the top of engine bay by moving the coolant reservoir.
4. Put on new filter.
5. Put oil plug back in pan.
6. Put in 3.5 liters of oil (in a 1.8t)

You might also put some oil into the filter as well to get it circulating though the engine too. This won't work if the filter mounts horizontally though... I've never changed oil on an Audi, so I don't know.

 

Jest, don't be so hard on Wal*Mart. The one in Monroe, NY does my changes without any problems. Mobil 1 0W-40 for $29.70. I supply the filter.

 

Well if you get service then great. I just wouln't trust them with my baby.
