I am new to this forum and don't talk much online but I have been wanting to join an Audi club. I live in Portland, OR and have a 2000 a4. I have done some mods to it and want to talk to others about possibly doing some more and mostly networking my way into the system. I want to possibly join a club to show off my ride and see what others have done to theirs. I love my car and am going to be an enthusiast for a while. Germans make great cars!

The Portland Audi Club is a laid back mailing list basically. They do have GTG's (like an upcoming detailing tech day, and a brake tech day with us, followed by an S-Car meet).

I may bring the car by, to get a good once over. It's really straight except for the recently discovered water leak that left near an inch of water in the drivers side front and rear footwells. I've read it could be the sunroof drain being clogged? I bought it from Freeman, and they are about to try to have it fixed.

Is this a normal Audi thing?

BTW, here's my other ride. The Audi is gonna give it a break from the winter action:

A general lookover would definitely be smart; kind of give you a road map on what might need to be fixed, if anything.

A B5 S4 client had a drain issue like that. Usually it is the sunroof drains that get clogged (they just have to be blown out). Then the carpet has to be dried. For our B5 S4 client, just for the passenger side, it was about 2.5hrs of labor and the car was left over night to fully dry. For yours, with both sides wet, it'd be double that time (seats come out front/rear, carpet is pulled up and a fan dries the carpet/foam out).

Thanks for the input. In my B5, it's just the drivers side, front and back, that is wet. Not both, so I hope that all you'd have to do is take out the drivers seat and prop up the carpet to dry. What's peculiar to me is this. Where does the water go, when the sunroof drain is jammed up? I mean, I shop-vac'ed out at least a gallon or more of water. How does it rout? Down the a-pillar and over the electrical board?

As far as the MINI goes, it has a moderate number of mods, and is fairly conservative:

First, it has a John Cooper Works (JCW) system installed. In case you are not familiar, the kit includes
-an uprated Eaton supercharger
-JCW 13.8% reduction pulley (I might go to 17%
-JCW revised cylinder head
-JCW cat-back exhaust system (very similar in design to the Milltek)
-JCW injectors
-JCW chip
-JCW (denso) plugs/ wires

Then straight aftermarket:
-Alta cold air intake
-Brembo 320mm cross drilled brake system on the fronts
-Brembo OEM sized cross drilled rotors on the rear (no available rear calipers other than OEM)
-H&R springs
-Motegi FF7 18" wheels, running 225/35/18 Pirelli Pzero Nero MS
-M7 Tuning carbon fiber front splitter
-Alta 19mm rear swaybar
-black "Aero" grill mod
-35% tint

It still needs a few more things, and maybe a different damper/spring combo, and a header. I don't know If I'd put a shrick cam in it, but maybe after the warranty expires on the car.

All in all, it makes maybe 215hp on a good day, but with the wheels basically at the corners, it is a serious kick in the pants on a club run, or at PIR on a track day. It only weights 2,650 lbs, so it really scoots through the twisties. Good fun! If I had cubic dollars (and didn't have a sane wife), I'd drop a twin charge system in there and have closer to 400hp. But I don't.

I'll be sure to stop by. I may ask Les at Freeman Motorcars to send the Audi to you for the de-watering. I think he referenced someplace close by, but I swear he said that there was a place closer to Zupans. For sure I will bring it in to Matrix for a good inspection/ once over. I'll be in touch on that. BTW, what's Matrix's hourly shop rate?

Yes, if it's just the driver side then just the driver seat and rear seat would need to come out to allow the carpet to pull up.
When the sunroof drains get clogged, the a-pillar fabric gets wet (you may even see some of this around the sunroof seal/headliner) as it all backs up, flooding into the passenger compartment.

Nice mods on the S. They're pretty quick stock!

Well, what I meant was that it'd be worse if the area around the sunroof seal was wet as well.

If water were still in the sunroof, then you would see moisture marks on the headliner around the sunroof.

It'll be interesting to see what they find.
