I was wondering if the vag-com knock offs on ebay are any good, or even worth the time? I got the giac x chip but I need the vag-com to change the settings if I ever wanna run race fuel. Has anyone bought one of these vag-com knock offs and are they worth it?

 

If you are going to purchase the $99 software from Ross-Tech, then yea, they are ok. If you are going to use the free shareware, it sucks.

GIAC, doesn't make any Vag-com software, but they do sell the cables. The shareware will not let you do logging, it doesn't explain the codes, & you can't do any adaptations. It's like buying a screwdriver with the tip, kind of useless.

 

Not entirely true, you can clear codes "even though it doesn't tell you what most of them are" and log up to I think block 25 or something. YOu can just look the numbers up online for the code problem. One other downside that I learned first hand is if you get the cheapo' cable and buy the software make sure you never have to format your computer or anything. I decided to upgrade to Vista and then it stopped working. I called ross-tech and they said sorry but you paid for a single liscence and no support. All they could do for me is basically give me a the upgrade price of the cable for $129 and now I can use the newest software along with move it to any computer I like.
