Default Ugh...stupid fancy Euro foglights

So, I decide to let a friend take my Audi for a test drive last Friday night. We get in the car, go about two blocks and pull up to a four-way stop at the same time as a State Trooper. We're on his left, so we turn in front of him and carefully drive down the block to a stoplight. When the light turns green, he flips on his radar detector to see if he could catch us speeding. He cannot, but then he turns on his lights anyway to pull us over. I am pretty nervous at this point, because my plates are registered to my old car still. He walks up to the window and says to me that my right taillight is out. I know this is not right, and tell him that politely. It's the Euro-spec foglight, or should I say lack thereof. He insists that it is indeed my taillight, and asks to check them again without the brakes on. So as soon as he goes back there, I switch off the rear fogs, and he comes back confused, saying that everything seems to be fine this time. I already know this, and thank him for his tireless work in the line of duty anyway. He gives me his card, and keeps his radar gun on us the entire way back to my house.

All that brings me to this point: This is bullsh*t. I refuse to be pulled over again for this reason, and then have him notice I have an aftermarket exhaust, or my new insurance card hasn't come yet, etc etc. So how hard is it to put a bulb back there? Has anyone else had this problem? This is ridiculous. It's never even foggy around here anyway, but I have to use the foglights in order to see at night with my crappy stock headlights.

yuikio, i did it to my old tails, it's very easy...if you have the newer (99.5+) taillights it's even easier because the hole is already partially drilled out....your lights are already wired for it...just pop out your tails (four 8mm nuts inside the trunk), and you'll see a half-hole at the top of the tails...just cut that out with a dremel and stick a bulb into the harness and youre set...very easy to do.

I don't understand the point of those rear fogs the only time i use them is when some little punk comes up on my butt. Anyways there should be 2 switches on the dash 1 to turn on your front fog lights and 1 to turn on your front fogs and your back fogs.

The point of the rear foglight is to have traffic that is coming by you at a high rate of speed see you while its foggy. they put it on the left side because that is what side you pass on... hope that helps make sense of why its there. Ohh and yes you could just do the smart thing and turn the front fogs on only!!!

well, i know i have said this before but don't put it on both sides. It will get confused with brake lights. Also you should not be running that light unless it is REALLY foggy outside. It is anoying to other people and it is illegal. I don't even run my fronts on unless there is limited visibuility. Just leave the back one off.

If you only need front foglights to impreove visibility, then turn off the rear one. I've used the rear one few times in heavy fog, heavy rain, and heavy snow at night. Other than that, I rarely use foglights (both front and back). Thanks to the HID headlights. They're bright enough to me.
