Default Ram Air not a true Ram Air?

I realize there may be some post's about this but i couldent find any.

Has any one ever noticed that what we would call the 'Ram Air' that flows into the air box does not get a direct shot of air from the outside of the car? I was under the hood the other day and noticed that when you close the hood, the inlet for the 'ram air' actually gets blocked by the top most part of the hood, right above the grill. Basicly, the inlet sucks in 'fresh air' but the air is in no way 'ramed' into the inlet mouth going to the air box.

Do you know how sometimes you see B5'ers that keep the 'ram air inlet' and point it at there new K n' N intake filter? I doubt that does anything because no air is forced through that pipeing.

Im thinkin if i do an intake soon in my tune up. Im going to try and put together and true 'ram air' in the grill. Hmmm, maby in-turn i will be able to get rid of the 'heat sucking' problem as well?

you gota remember air particles are TINY and EVERYWHERE so they are making it through the intake snorkle whether there is something in front of it or not

When your driving, all that air is going to get forced into all the tiny cracks in the front of your car. Yes, it is blocked, but when your are in motion, air is going to get into it. Now on the Passats, or at least the B5.5s, the hood doesn't cover the snorkle opening. They acually have there own little grill on the outside to keep out big debris.

And even if the direct air flow is blocked, having a turbocharger basically nullifys any ram air effect.

If you've ever looked at the air box anything thats forced in there would be pointless since it has to go down into the box and then up to get through the filter and into the TIP. I don't think it would be doing much with that many sharp bends and it goes into a box which would decrease the pressure anyway.
