Default AFR Qs

Since Cincy informed me that certain TTs have wideband o2 sensors, and mine is one of them, I have been toying the idea of an AFR gauge. Since I am chipped and will be playing with Unisettings eventually, I want to be able to watch for problems at times when I won't be logging. In my experiences with turbocharged cars, mostly DSMs, I have learned that a WBo2 is an essential tool in tuning. This thread says otherwise: https://www.audiforums.com/m_403601/tm.htm I don't agree that they are useless. How can anything that shows how close you are to the threshold of too lean be useless?

In my mind, an AFR and EGT are a great combo... but if we already have WBo2 sensors, a AFR gauge is a more cost effective mod. The 42DD site has the install guide for a SW AFR, but says to either run it off of the rear narrowband, or install a whole new 02 sensor. It has no guide for running off the factory front WB sensor.

I searched a bit, and came up with no posts saying anybody has an install guide for AFR off of the factory WB. The above mentioned thread does say it's possible. XCLR8TTsays he hashis installed this way,but I'm not sure if his car has a front WB or not, since not all TTs have them.

hey tai, usually its best to install a seperate wb 02 in a new bung for afr montioring. the problem withsplicing off your current o2 is that you will be stealing a littlebit of voltage to send to the guage. installing another o2 isa little expensive considering youcan already monitor the afr throughavagcom.

Dont listen to those people, that denium guy was an idiot and thought he knew a bunch of stuff since he worked at a dealer. Steve hasa narrowband gauge since he has a 00which is pretty much worthless.

I say just stick with a vagcom and run logs every no and again. The ecu wont change the a/f far from where its set so i wouldnt worry about having constant monitoring unless you are doing heavy modifications.

That would be accurate. He was like a parts guy and thought he was a master mechanic. He didnt know much about anything and passed it off like he knew everything. One of the reasons why i started coming here the people were so far behind other sites.
