Default New here, please help

Hello,

I am new to these forums and just bought a 1999 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. The easiest upgrade is probably a chip, but I know nothing about cars and really don't want to spend a lot of money. Is it possible to get the chip alone, and installed, or do I need t upgrade other stuff like exhaust as well? I can probably only afford a chip at the moment but I don't want to install it and have it wear down on/ruin my car, in which case I'd rather leave it stock. Some people mention a lot of problems with it and I don't want that.

Thanks!

Hey welcome to the forum. A chip is going to be the easiest upgrade to the engine. When you upgrade the ECU with a chip your turbo provides additional boost. For this reason it is good to replace your diverter valve to a stronger one. Most people like to upgrade to the 710N valve from the TT as it is stronger than your stock one. It costs around $35 from the dealer. Other than that, i've never heard of any problems with chipping. Who ever said it will ruin your car is mislead.

Redgoat.....very heart warming intoduction. BTW redgoat is right, you'll learn alot here. Just upgrade to the chip and get the diverter valve installed, you'll be ok.
