Default What can i use to mack a watertight grommit??

i have a 97 A4 and when i did my system i cut out the little black grommit that was on the cable that pops the hood right next to the black fuse box. i dont have the system anymore, and i need to plug the hole or i cant take it otu in the rain b/c the car fills up with water due to the quater size hole. anyone have any ideas of what type of material i can use to make a grommit

when i bought my a4, i had an issue with water leaking into my car as well, and found that the gasket under the ecu box was bad. (now to the hopefully helpful part) what i used was black roofing caulk around the unsealing area. it's watertight, looks factory, and i've had no water problems to date (knock on wood) what i would suggest is cut a small piece of black plastic, then caulk or silicone it to the area where the hole is

caulking, silicon gasket maker, or "great stuff" (get it at homedepot) have all worked well for me

ok thanks guys i already tried silicone, couldnt get the tip in far enough resulting in about 2inches of water in the back floor. i was thinking of trying great stuff but wasnt sure of it waterproofness. ill try it. and when u say black roofing caulk, you dont mean flashing cement do you???

cover the hole with a piece of plastic or something and then seal around it. seems to work better

Some really good pick-up lines, and a long hose?
