Default 2006 A3 3.2 Quattro New Suspension/Drop

I don't know much about the suspension components on cars... I checked the newbie forum, but it never answered whether or not there are suspension upgrades that will fit the 3.2 Quattro version of our beloved A3.

I know there are plenty of you front-wheel drive four-banger lovers out there with sweet looking drops... I defentily want to make my wheels fill up the wells better, and get a much firmer ride/less body roll. Any advice? Hopefully there are suspension components that will fit my 3.2 Quattro.

Thanks,
Drew

Okay, I did some indepth searching and found out that there may be a few coilover kits for the 3.2 Quattro A3, but no definitive "for-sure" answer... everyone says that it "should" fit.

I'm interested in this Bilstein coilover kit http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=790

A few people on other fourms said it's amongst the best in terms of adjustability and performance.

Has anyone actually put this coilover kit into their 3.2 Quattro A3?

Over on Fourtitude, Angryrican just replaced his H&R kit with the Euro S-Line Springs

I thought replacing JUST the springs on a coilover was a bad idea... don't you need to replace the spings and the other part (that goes inside the spring) in order to acheive a non-bouncy ride?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge about suspensions...

He did the Euro springs with Koni FSD shocks

Front wheel gap went from 5 fingers down to 3. Rear wheel gap went from 4 to 3

There is also an H&R kit available that will have a more dramatic drop.

Ah okay, I see now. I don't want to drop it really low. I saw the pictures of the Koni FSD shocks + euro springs and it was perfect!

I wonder if anyone has put the euro springs on the US s-line OEM shocks. What would happen if I did that?

Coilovers are small diameter springs mounted on a shock, with threaded adjusters for height/preload adjustment. Regular suspension has large coils that mount against the body. They're wrapped around the shock at the front (Mcpherson strut), and separate from the shock in back.
You can likely replace your stock springs with Euros, while using the stock shocks. Not much drop or rate diff, probably work fine. A more dramatic drop with H&Rs likely will cause bottoming and premature wear on your stock shocks; I'd consider using different shocks in this case, or going to coilovers for their fine adjustability.

I see.

I'm looking for a more inexpensive way to lower, stiffen, and improve the handling without emptying 1500 dollars for the coilover set by Bilstein.

I don't think I'd want to put any new springs (even euro) on my car with the stock shocks if they have the chance of prematurely wearing the shocks. I might as well do it right the first time.

Well, it wouldn't hurt to try the stock shocks with Euro springs, and replacing the shocks later won't cost much extra, but you ought to check with Frank ( angryrican66), the 3.2 mod expert on fourtitude. I have FSD's with sport springs + Neuspeed rear bar on my 2.0, and I think it's the perfect street setup. And it will probably cost you about $1500 if you decide to go this way - parts + install.

I thought you couldn't get the rear sway bar on the 3.2 Quattro.
