Question A3 Weird Rear Wiper Behaviour

Hi All

Im hoping that someone out there can help. My A3 (1999) has developed a weird fault with the rear wiper. If I wash the rear screen the wiper works fine however if i just activate the wiper without wash it struggles to do a full sweep of the rear window. Ive got my MOT due next Wednesday - i dont know if this would count as a failure.

Thanks in advance

Simon

I think that the rubber in the washer hardened, causing it not to slide smoothly on the window as (new) washers do.

Default Rear wiper problem

My A3 has developed a rear wiper fault, it starts and stops wiping randomly without operating the switch. It also stops anywhere but at its normal resting place. Itis probably cause by a water leak inside the hatch, but how do you get the inner panel off, there are 2 screws in the handle recess but with them removed the panel is still fast. Anyone know how to remove the inner panel?

G, not sure about all years but it looks like the two screws either side of the hand hold are the only screws. There are a bunch of the spring clamps/tabs around the edge of the trim panel also holding it in place. The pic in my manual only indicates them on the sides(3 per side?), could be all the around though. With that trim panel off you should have access to the motor and wiring. Hope that helps a little.

edit: You may want to include the year of the car in future posts. Don't think it matters here but could on some items.

Thanks, I'll have another look. It's a 2008 1.9TDI A3.
