Default Bad Cam shaft/ High Pressure Fuel Pump

My 06 Manual A3 only has 54,000 and just got word today the cam shaft is bad and needs to be replaced along with the high pressure fuel pump. The turbo was acting up at 48000 and didn't have power while in 4,5 and 6 gear at least once a day. The check engine light has been coming on since 48k as well.

Doesn't seem right that a cam shaft would go bad on such a quality built car. Must have been machined improperly or bad steel.

Any of you had any of these problems or ever heard of this problem on an Audi?

Luckily the dealer is working with me and will be covered under original 50k warranty. They have given me an 08 A4 convertible to drive for the next week while they wait on the parts as well.

Yeah, its becoming more common on the early model 2.0T engines. I've replaced four cam shafts on A4's, and two on A3's. Only had to replace the pump once though.

Any long term damage and could it happen in the next 50k?

Couldn't tell ya, haven't seen one with 100k on it yet. I believe they upgraded the metal on the pump and cam gear for newer models however.

Odd. We havent had one vw or audi grind down a lobe yet that ive heard of and thats like 30 techs between the two brands, so we have pretty good volumn of cars.

Knock on wood, don't worry there are a couple of them on your lot right now with some wear i bet. Its just a matter of time before you find one.

That sucks! Doesn't inspire confidence in reliability to 100k miles. I'm hoping that I get mine worn prior to 50k miles too![&:]

I am experiencing the same issues and just received word from my dealer that it will be 2300 to fix and replace. This seems quite ridiculous as I am now learning that this issue is becoming more prevalent as the cars get older.

My 05 A4 has 65500 miles on it and it just happened yesterday, all power seemed to have disappeared. The car still moved but the with the pedal to the floor in 3rd or above, the rpms would rise but the car would not accelerate.

I have put in a complaint with Audi and we'll see if they help out at all, but I'm not holding my breath.

One of the reasons I bought the car was because of their reputation, but that has taken a hit with this recent issue.
