noise from gearbox in neutral
I have A3 2.0T quatro 6 gears manual tranny 2007 10K kilometers. There is a "grrr..." noise from the gear when in neutral which disapears when pushing the clutch. Is it normal? What should be done?

RE: noise from gearbox in neutral
sounds like the thrust bearing is bad so if you have a warranty get the clutch and all its parts changed, clutch plate/pressure plate and thrust bearing which should be done and not just the bearing that's bad practice because you get problems later doing it that way

RE: noise from gearbox in neutral
the noise is a vibration from the thrust bearing which pushes the pressure plate in and that's why the noise stops when its pressed in
edit: im not saying the clutch has a problem but for the thrust bearing to go within 10k would suggest there is a problem waiting to happen and personally if it were me I would expect the lot to be changed under the warranty
