97 A4 Quatro Problem need some help
Ok 97 a4 2.8 Quatro with 75k on it. Bought the car with the right front lower control arm falling out (lower ball joint really), replaced both lower control arms, no problem. The car has a air bag light on (check the code 142 voltage b (have no idea what that means. I checked all of the fuses and they are all good. Any Ideas where to go with this? It is a hard code, I clear it comes right back.
Also the fuel gauge was working until I put gas in it. Then it would read low for a bout 2 miles and gradually start to come up to full. Then if I shut the car off it would repeat this process for about 3-4 days. All of a sudden it would work until i went for gas again. I went threw this process for about 5 tanks. I filled up on Monday and today it started to work normal it was reading about 1/2 a tank this morning upon starting (which I figure is about right). However tonight I went for a drive and it is reading full which I know is wrong. I do not know if the sending unit is part of the pump. Should I change the whole module or just the sending unit if I can? Is this a common problem? Am I even in the right direction or is it something else? Any ideas will help thanks so much. Also any ides on parts, and if i should attempt this self ( I have access to 9k lift but only at night)... I heard you need to drop the rear end to get to the pump in this car? Any truth to that? One more question. Timing belt should be changed at 90K? Thank you so much

i don't think dropping your rear end is necessary, but i've never replaced my pump, so i don't know for sure, i doubt audi would do something like that though.....for parts, check the "audi links" sticky at the top of the A4 forum.....audi recommends 90k for your tb, but on this forum (and most mechanics as well) will tell you every 60-75k....60-70 you should be fine, but after that you're risking it, if your tb goes out, it means BIG damage to your engine....

dpends on what route you take....you can do it all yourself and keep the whole thing under 300 bucks with the ecstuning "ultimate tb kit"....at a mechanic, you're looking at 500-900, depending on where you....just make sure, if you take it to a shop, that they replace all the necessary parts (look at the ecs kit)...you should also replace the snub mount while youre in there (13 bucks at greedspeed)....and the camshaft seals as well, also from ecstuning.
