Default Cam Position Sensor

i have had a CEL on for a few thousand miles now. Everytime i run the code, it comes up as p1392 which i found to be a Cam Shaft Position sensor with a short to B+. i read on a forum that its very likely the electrical connections are just bad and can be fixed without replacing the actual sensor. i know that there are two of these sensors on the car (99 a4 2.8 q). but does anyone know where they are? or have replaced one of them before? thanks

Dont know for the 2.8 exactly, but...

It should be near the top of the t-belt cover, or under the t-belt cover, on each side of the front of the engine.

If you can locate them, you should be able to get to the harness and clean it, but I dont have a 2.8. Hopefully someone with a 2.8 can chime in on this.

It could be an open circuit or a short. Check for a lose connection as
acetrebo said.

I had a cam sensor go last year. But I didn't bother trying to clean or test them I just bought two new ones and replaced them both and was done with it.
Bank 1 ( passenger side ) is pretty easy because of good access. Bank 2 is still pretty easy just a littlle tricky cause it's in the back.
In the pic just above the letter "e" you can see Bank 1 sensor, the silver thing with two 10mm bolts. If you need to replace Bank 2 you may need a socket with a swivel attachment due to very awkward angle and little access.

well i pulled both of them, and deemed that they need replacement. where did you order yours from? i found a site for $80.. seems reasonable but just wondering if there is a better deal out there.

That price sounds about right. I paid just over $80 iirc.
