Buying an Audi. Good or bad idea?
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and thoughd I'd introduce myself. For the first time I'm considering a non-japanese car and making the jump to European cars. I'm considering getting a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. The only thing holding me back is that I always hear that Audi's are very expensive to maintain, and that they are unreliable cars. I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into, and would really appreciate it if you guys and girls can share your stories with me regarding maintenance and reliability.
I'm reluctantly selling my Subaru Impreza STi and I'm deciding between a 2006 Impreza 2.5RS or the 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. The Audi will save me $110 canadian per month. The question is, will the Audi end up costing me $110 MORE in maintenance than the Subaru? Any comments or suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Derf

Well, of course the maintance cost will less than what you save a year 110*12= $1320, around $1182 US dollars, unless you want to mod it, coz you are comparing a used car and a brand new car with warranty, and you didn't mention anything about the stats of the 2001 AUDI.

please whatever you do, run a carfax and it probably wouldnt hurt to see if a local dealer can look up the service records on it for you. what i understand is if you do regular maintenance these cars will last you and you will have no problems. read the FAQ on common 1.8t problems. hope this helps, and by the way i love my 2002 a4...shoot i sold my 400 hp 2000 corvette for it and dont regret it a bit!

i ran car facts on a supra i used to have that it caught on fire and then it was considered totaled and when i went to look around that same car poped up from the same guy that i got it from.
i ran the vin and carfax and it came out clean when indeed it had been totaled before that....
thought i might share that with you guys lol..
