Engine Speed Sensor
A4 1.8T 2001: 100,000 miles: Cranks but will not start. Spark plugs getting properly wet with gas, but no spark from Coils. Fuse feading coils is OK. Have had hard starting for several weeks in cold/wet weather.
Getting fault code P0322 (Engine Speed Sensor No Signal Intermittent).
RPM in Display Blocks read Zero while cranking.
Checked resistanceand got about 380,000 ohms. Resistance to shield (ground terminal) and to pole piece read infinity. Removed sensor, cleaned and dried it in house and then in oven at 200 to 250 degrees F for 3 hours. Mounted an old timing gear to a hand held drill and measured AC volts from pickup held close to sides of gear teeth. It read 3 to 6 volts depending on air gap. Put it back in engine, still would not start.Disconnected sensor at firewall mounted connector and measured AC volts while cranking. It read about 1.47 volts. Cleared codes. Cranked engine and got same error code as above.
Does anyone know what the resistance should be across the open sensor and AC volts while cranking engine?
