Default Fault Code -- P0024

My check engine light came on and I did a dignostic test and the result was the following fault code

Code Definition
P0024 -- "B" Camshaft Position - Timing over-advanced or system performance.(Bank 2)

I just bought my A4 about a month and a half ago it has 61,000 miles on it. I am concerned this could be something real serious. Does anyone have any helpful information on this subject???

Is the car running normally?

What year/engine is it? have you tried to clear it and see if it comes back?

Not a very common code.....

It is a 2002 and I did try to reset it and it came back on. It has been running okay. When I look up the code at the following website it says 16408 - advanced timing http://www.gerritspeek.nl/vag-com_fo...-en.html#autos

Im not finding the code where I usually look, at the Bently website.

Here's the list from there.....

16394

P0010

-A- Camshaft Pos. Actuator Circ. Bank 1 Malfunction

16395

P0020

-A- Camshaft Pos. Actuator Circ. Bank 2 Malfunction

16449

P0065

Air Assisted Injector Control Range/Performance

16450

P0066

Air Assisted Injector Control Low Input/Short to ground

looks similar to P0020. But according to bently, its not an audi fault code.

Anyway, it looks like either the cams are not lined up with each other, or your camshaft position sensor on one side is shot, or your timing belt has become off and jumped a tooth or something.
Has the t-belt been changed on the car ever?
I would certainly have this looked at, maybe take it somewhere and get an estimate, they may know whats wrong and then you could fix it yourself.

Yeah if it's a timing belt issue that COULD turn serious. Audi engines are interference based engines so if your timing belt comes off or is off to much your cylinder heads will hit your valves and that will mess stuff up REAL quick! Then you get to replace a whole bunch of stuff and it's not cheap. Have that looked at ASAP!

P0024 = camshaft position sensor, exhaust/right/rear, bank -2 timing over advanced, fault is valve timing, engine mechanical fault, camshaft actuator

The only time I have seen that fault is when the belt has jumped time or someone f*** up putting on the belt. I would check the timing and if its off replace the belt. If it is off and its more than 2-3 teeth you may have a bigger problem
