this is a question im more interested in hearing from the 2.8ers because thats my engine but still would like feedback. ive so far changed the coolant and thermostat and everything else with cooling. my car warms up faster than ever and it actually warms up not just fluctuate between high and low, for me it take about 10minutes of normal driving to start heating and then maybe another 10-15 minutes to get to the center, latley the the temps here have been around 30f and the oil heats up to about 160f in about 10 minutes before i try a hard acceleration. how long does it take for oyu guys to heat up your engines and how long do you wait before oyu nail it.

 

mine takes about five minutes of slow driving, i usually start the car wait like a minute to put it in gear, and then drvie around the 1500 to 2000 rpm range for a but until the temp comes up all the way to the center...then another 5 minutes til my oil starts warming up, thats when i start driving a lil bit harder (3000-4000 rpm) and then its all fun once its all warmed up...like 12 minutes or so of normal driving i guess

 

How do you look on oil temp. on B6?

 

mine does pretty much the same.

 

Well you guys are wierd i startmy car and wrap every gear out to 6500 and it warms up in less than 2 minutes. That way i can heat myself up in less time.....j/k same same nothing warms up fast on my car.

 

FWIW, I have an A8 (I kno, I'm lurkin...) and I'm pusin the 4.2 ABZ engine, and I generally wait'll the heater starts making heat (there's a little bar guage on the center console climate controls that starts to climb ONLY when there's enough heat to cause the fan to start pushin air into the cabin). At that point I *KNOW* the oil's warm, cuz the HVAC gets IT'S heat from the coolant, which ONLY warms up if the motor's warm. At 2 bars I'm making heat.(temp gauge is at it's lowermost marking) I take it easy until I get 3 bars, then I basically KNOW the motor's up to optimum operating temp because the temp gauge is at it's bottom "main" mark. Which is where it STAYS, no matter how HARD, or how FAST I drive. So, allus Klar, Herr Komissar?

 

i just floor it till the needle goes up

works everytime.

 

Hell i do that to heat up the coolant but only when the oil temp goes above 160degree F.
