Default How often do you change your oil?

hey guys, i was wondering how often you change the oil on your car? i know its best every 5000km but i heard the engine was just fine with a change every 10,000km, any truth to this?

the car is a 97 1.8t, giac chipped, hyperboost DV, k&n drop in, remus muffler if any of that is taken into account. im gentle with the car and it is always warmed up/cooled down. also, is there any significant advantage to using the larger filter?

TIA

I use Mobil1 0w40 and change it every 2000 miles. A larger filter has more surface area so the filter will not clog up as fast but does not clean better or flow better although there may be a slightly low oil temp with a larger filter due to the increased amount of oil.

I use 5w40 valvoline synpower and change at 3000miles. The larger filter allows more oil to be installed without over filling the engine. Personally I think more oil is better, it takes longer to get dirty and longer to break down and sludge up. But with synthetic and 3k oil change, I dont worry about sludge or the oil breaking down anyway. The idea of 10k oil change scares me, especially when you can do it yourself fairly cheap.

im going to use motul 5w40 and most likely the larger filter, dont see any reason not to. these motors take 4L correct which equals 4.2q?

this is what i was trying to clarify, my mechanic(who is also friends with my uncle) told him that he only needed his oil changed every 10k in his S4, which is what the dealer did. it sounded like a long time but with full syn. it should up for longer right?

You should change it at 5000km and your not gentle on the motor if your chipped!

that doesnt make any sense...the power increase with a chip is not enough to automatically put excessive load on the motor under normal driving conditions.
