Rear brake lights turn on and stay on with ignition off
A few months ago my rear brake lights (NOT the dash warning lights) started coming on and staying on after a few minutes to hours after I parked my car. Some mornings I would wake up to find my car wouldn't start and I'd have to jump start it.
This happens so frequently that I'm checking out the window every night before going to bed to see if the rear brake lights turned on. If they are on, I can go and pump the brakes a few times very hard and the lights will turn off and stay off for the night.
Any ideas on what may be causing this problem?
Specs: 2002 Audi A4 manual transmission

rear brake lights turn on and stay on
I had the same problem with my car. I noticed before I get out of the car, I pull up behind the brakes with my foot. I think the brake pedal gets stuck some. and needs oil or something like that. I only know if you go outside when the lights are on, and get inside the car and pull up with your foot on the brake pedal the lights will go off and stay off.

I ended up going to the dealership a few months ago. They replaced the brake light pedal switch and it's been working fine since.
The dealership, in Dallas, Texas, charged me way tooooooo much (find my negative experience review posted to yelp). Next time I'll take the car to Lord of the Rings Audi ... highly recommended on yelp and even by the mechanics at the dealership.
