Default start your car, leave your key

Hello - I recently purchased an 02 Audi A4 3.0 quattro and now the cold weather is coming. I have tried starting my car in the morning and then locking the doors (i have an extra key) but the car wont let me! Is there anyway I can start my car while keeping the doors locked (and LEAVING the car). I noticed that the key does seperate into two parts but that still does nothing for me. I only have two flip up keys I do not have any extra keys.

Thanks!

Start your car then get out and manually lock the door with your extra key. There are only 2 ways to get out of the car and lock the driver door, with the remote (i think there has to be no key in the ignition) or with the key in the lock...you can't use the button inside. I do this all the time with my 2001 in cold weather. But it's also possible that they changed it in '02.

wind the window down and start the car ( if you lock it with the remote it turns the alarm on ) that turns the engine off or will trip a fault code, manual locking also turns the immobiliser on and will lock you out and shut the engine down

They are pretty idiot proof. It's pretty much impossible to lock yourself out of the car because you have to have the key or remote in your hand to lock it.

Is that something they added in 2002? I lock my car manually with the engine on and don't get any codes (unless they were cleared by the battery being disconnected) and the engine keeps running. I can't remember what happens when you try to lock it with the remote while it's running, but it doesn't shut down the engine.

if the engine is running it sees you as in the car with the keys in so using a second key fob will disrupt the system which is common sense, stay in the car till its warmed up unless you have a security area so no one cans steal it when it running??

how about a remote starting system? or would the car not like that idea either and do something wierd

you could get a mean dog and just have him sit in the passenger seat while its warming up, waiting to kill anyone who tries to steal your car
