Strange Clicking Noise From Rear of Car

RE: Strange Clicking Noise From Rear of Car
Well, I just got off of the phone with the head mechanic over at the Les Schwab my family has been going to for years. He said that wheel bearings generally makes a constant howling noise, no matter what speed I'm traveling at, but that it might be the axel. Either way it's about $200 total for parts and labor, axel or bearing. I'm trying to work out with some friends to get it over there before the day ends to get an inspection done.
If it is the axel, is it still alright to drive it around town for the weekend? I'm not going to be doing any long-distance driving or anything, but I really don't want to hurt the car. I'm sure you all understand.

Okay, I just had it looked at on my lunch break. The mechanic there says that it seems to be coming from the front right wheel, but that the noise is so slight that he isn't even sure if it's the axle. He checked all of the CV boots and joints, and they are fine. I asked him about a wheel bearing, but he drove it around and said that a wheel bearing would make a completely different noise, especially when the car is turned sharply.

wheel bearing is a clik clik clik in rapid succesion. sounds like when you put a stick on the wheel spokes of a bike wheel while its spinning.. sorta like that.
do you get the sound at lower speeds?especially if you drive by a wall and you hear the echo?

differential rear clicking noise.
I've hd the same issue with a 05 Cadillac srx. Awd. I've replaced cv axles and wheerings all the way around, and still the same clicking persisted when I would accelerate hard. It turns out it was the rear differential and u joint had to be replaced, and it cured the problem. The cost for a job like this cost me around 400. Hope this helps.
