Default Thoughts on 2014 A4 - Premium and CVT?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and primarily joined to get the thoughts on the community on the new (2014) A4. I have been in touch with different dealers here in northern CA and have been able to get a good quote of $33k for a Premium A4 with CVT and S-Line package (couldn't find 1 that had navigation and then I realized I didn't want one that was too techy).

Anyway, I test drove the vehicle this past weekend and loved it. The quattro is definitely better in terms of driving, but not worth the extra $2-3k, specially here in CA. I was also looking at the 3 series (BMW) - don't yell on me. But, I have a colleague whose steering just locked out in the middle of the road and read similar things (engine just shut down on the freeway, etc.) - all of these cars were 3 series (320i or 328i). And all of these are pretty new cars (2011 and 2014 models). So, I am 100% sure I don't need a BMW.

I did find similar problems reported for the Audi's too. But, those were very old cars - 2001/2005 A4's. Coming to my question - Do you guys know if its common to experience such life threatening problems in these german cars once they are 4-5yrs old? I mean, after spending $35k or so, the last thing I need is to worry about my car dying in the middle of freeway and some truck running me over.

Also, are there any of you who own the 2014 A4? Would love to hear your experience so far!

Sorry if i didn't follow some guidelines.

Thank You

I would think that buying brand new any issues with the car would show up during the warranty period. After that as long as the car has been taken care of you should be fine. With any care how it is taken care of really dictates it's future potential.

You won't find much love for the CVT on this forum. There are a few, but the majority favor the quatro. Even in areas that do not get snow. To me it is worth the extra money and the decreased fuel economy.
