I recently acquired a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro, the trunk lights and the license plate lights do not work, the trunk open indicator stays on all the time as well (not sure if this is supposed to be the license plate light indicator?) I/we have replaced the bulds, looked for corosion and contact - no power to the license plate lights with the tester. Checked fuses. Checked for pinched wire in trunk. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

After checking all fuses i would check the wires that go from the trunk too the vehicles body. They will wear out with opening & closing of trunk after a period of time.

 

I was wrong about the trunk lights, they work when the trunk is closed only. Changed the bulbs once again on the license plate lights and still nothing. My trunk open indicator is on when the trunk is closed and off when it is open. So confused!!

 

Sooooooo , did you check the wires?

 

Yes, we had initially checked them, then again pulled the inside cover of the trunk lid off, followed all the wiring looking for bare or worn wires. I did read somewhere later that night that there is also wiring under the rubber, I will look there this morning.

 

I am exerienceing the same problem, all the tail lights work fine besides the liecense plate lights, i replaced them, checked the wires all the way to the body no corrosion or anything, nothing is getting pinched and i still cant get them to work. fuses are fine. i looked threw my manual and it said its most likely a faulty wire... BUT WHERE DO THE WIRES GO after the trunk lid?????

i keep getting pulled over for no lights on my plates!
