Hi All,

I have a 2000 A6 4.2 which has oil leak coming from the transmission oil pan. Has anyone removed the oil pan to replace the gasket / sealant? Please let me know if this task can be a DIY and are there any threads available.

Check the valve cover gaskets. They leak down to the oil and transmission pan.

 

If it truly is the trans pan, changing the gasket is no big deal. Refilling the fluid is though. It goes in through the bottomof the pan and the level is checked at a specific temperature (30-35*C) using the stand tube in the pan. It's best left to a pro to be honest and be sure you use the CORRECT fluid!

I will jack up the car and confirm if it is the transmission that's leaking. You are probably right that I should go to the pros. I am not equipped to carry out the refilling procedure.
