Earlier today, I was driving past the local car lot, when I saw a 2002 Audi A6 with a 3.0 liter engine. The outside of the car was in pristine condition for the most part, minus a few blemishes; yet the car was priced at $2499. The bottom line is that the transmission is completely shot, and who knows what's wrong with the engine. For those interested, there's 179,817 miles on the vehicle.

For part of the afternoon, I'd researched both the cost & reliability of this transmission, whereas it appears that given a certain mileage, the Continuously Variable Transmission for the 02 Audi A6 is plagued with problems, with no guarantees of staying fixed, even after investing thousands of dollars in automotive repairs.

Additionally, I'm going to presume that the engine is also shot, so my question to the forum, is if whether or not, there's a more reliable engine & transmission combination that can be swapped into this vehicle. I wouldn't mind so much if it were something less than a 3.0 liter, provided that everything installs relatively easy and is mechanically headache free down the road....literally!
