Turbo life can be quite kong
Well, even though it’s been a decade since anybody replied on this thread and the number of 2.7 T engines on the road today is quite minimal. I thought I would tell you about my turbos. I have a 2001 A6 with 234,000 miles on it. It has the original turbos and they still work fine. In fact everything mechanical on the car works. fine The turbos have never been replaced. The car still sounds and drives like it’s almost new. It still has original clutch, still has the original transmission. It’s a six speed though, it’s a very nice car. Unfortunately once again, it’s getting near the place for a timing belt so may be time not to go forward. A particular cars reliability depends on a lot of variables. This car has always been run with synthetic oil which I think is a big plus, and it was not driven hard. The choices today are they 2.0 TDI and the 3.0T. The 3.0T is a fantastic performer but it has a very complex timing chain in the rear of the engine that requires the engine to be removed to fix. That’s a no go for me 6-8K to replace. Audi says the timing chain is good for 130,000 miles or so also the tensioners fail so now I’m looking at a A4 2.0 but I wonder if I can replace my 2.7T. I don’t know if anybody will ever read this, but I thought I would throw in my experience.
