Default 2000 a6 2.7t Plugs and Coil Packs

Hey everyone, I'm hoping I can get some help here since I'm new to Audis. I have a 2000 a6 2.7t and I am experiencing sputtering at low rpm's. I have misfire codes for cylinders 1, 4, and 5. The code is P0300 designated to those specific cylinders. I purchased spark plugs and coil packs from autopartswarehouse and installed them. The sputtering did not go away. I took it to a local shop that specializes in Audis and did a diagnostic, which he told me the plugs and coil packs fit, but they are not the right ones for the turbo. He said some fit the v6, but not the turbo and so I need the following NGK spark plugs PFR6Q @ $17.50ea ($105). Ignition coils part # 058 905 105 @ $90.00ea ($540). Is it possible to buy cheaper parts than these specific ones listed? Like I said, I am new to Audi and I am used to buying plugs for $3-$4 bucks! I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

the problem you are having is the ignition control module on top of the airbox. there is two of them and it will be the one closest to the front of the car.

Well the car does not hesitate to start at all and it has never not started for me. It is the sputtering at low rpm's that is the issue. I've gotten suggestions that it is the spark plugs, ignition coils, but not the ignition module at all. Just curious why you think it may be that. Thanks.

i say that because you are describing the exact same problem i had a couple of months ago. after spending a fortune following all the advice of spark plugs, coil packs, vacuum lines, etc, i finally decided to check the icm and guess what the problem was all along.

let me ask you, does it sound probable that 3 coil packs or spark plugs would go bad at the exact same time while the other 3 remain just fine? no. so, logic would dictate that you look to whatever those three cylinders have in common. guess what they have in common. the icm in front.

here is a test. clear your codes. unplug the wires from you icm. remove the airbox cover and spin it around 180 degrees and set it back. now plug the harnesses back into the icm"s so that the harnesses are on the icm oppositte of what it was originally attached to. start the car, let it run and rescan it. if the code jumps to the other cylinders, then you have your culprit.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I just finished doing a ton of other things on my car so I will try that right away. That is probably the quickest and smartest way to narrow down my problems. Ill give it a shot and give an update. Thanks a lot for the advice.

J Walters, thanks so much. That was exactly the problem and it was fixed right away. I went through so much BS and the auto shop gave me an estimate of 1600.00 without even mentioning the ignition modules so I am pretty happy right now! Magiben, thanks also for your input. You guys are the best on here. I am not sure if we are allowed to say where we got parts from so PM for cheap and working Audi parts. The modules would've cost me roughly 200.00 each and I got them for 80.00 each!

Default misfire p0300 p0302

thats awesome I wondered what those were on the airbox, I actually was throwing a po300 as well as a 302, 305, I changed my plugs and have put three coils on, I changed the coil on #4 due to my oil fill cap being shot and apparantly oil filled up the plug cavity in the head. I have been pulling my hair out as well, my wife was driving the a6 last week and drove like 45 miles with a flashing check engine light, I did a compression check and I have 175 with a 2-3 psi differential across the none misfiring cylinders, this is a great check. Were exactly did you find those icms for 80 bucks??????
