Default 2000 A6 4.2 Tranny issue, slips in drive fine in reverse

My a6 you really have to sink to the floor to get it to drive but when in reverse is 100 percent normal, could this simply be a torque convertor ? or a whole tranny ,thanks, tyler

The TC would behave the same in both forward and reverse. You probably have a problem with a solenoid valve or an internal clutch. Hope for the solenoid. It can usually be changed with the tranny in the car.

Have your car scanned with a VAG-COM. If you know someone with access to one it can tell you a lot, particularly if you can run some tests while driving. There are a large number of transmission diagnostics. If your Check Engine light is on there will definitely be codes but even if it is not the VAG-COM can tell you which solenoid(s) are engaged and the input and output shaft speeds of the transmission.
