Default 2000 A6 4.2L Trans....ECF limp mode?

Hello Everyone,

Wondering if anyone has had any luck replacing the input and output speed sensors in the transmission to fix a 17114/P0730 incorrect gear ratio DTC...or am I most likely looking at a rebuild.

This is the only DTC and car goes into limp mode when put into gear. (Any gear if I remember right). 198,000 miles. Owner said transmission rebuild around 110,000.

Scanned with MAC Mentor and don't have vehicle in shop to further diagnose. Haven't checked fluid, leaks, etc. He said there are no leaks and I didn't see any puddles.

Looking at buying for $500. Owner has had it 10 years.

(Take a chance on it?) Any thoughts or experience would help greatly. Thanks...
